Should you trust cavities found via laser?


I am in need of a second opinion regarding the fillings I have an appointment to get in a few days.


I just started going to the dentist again after a few years of not having dental insurance/money to go. I went the first time to a dentist a friend recommended. They told me that I had six cavities that needed to be filled. Unfortunately I could never get an accurate price quote from them for the fillings so I never got them.


Cut to today I went to a different dentist, and they used some sort of laser to check my teeth for cavities. Said device is a lot more sensitive than the pick method so it picked up a crap ton more cavities. I got four filled already and I am set to go back for another five, and I still have two more visits after that to go. I am starting to feel like all the teeth in my head are going to have fillings in them. He even mentioned something about me potentially needing a crown. I am worried I am getting a lot of work done that does not need to be done.


It is of note that none of my teeth hurt, and I take pretty decent care of them. I have never had any of the fillings from when I was a kid replaced, so those do probably need replaced.


Can anyone offer advice on this? Should I get the work done, or am I making a poor choice I will regret?

Am I dealing with dry socket, something worse or nothing at all?


I had a tooth pulled 4 days ago. There were a lot of complications, it was badly decayed, didn't want to go out and ultimately had to be surgically removed in pieces. I checked on my wound with tongue and it felt very tough, almost like lacerated bone. I put a cotton swab inside, it was indeed very tough but I felt no pain on contact at all (the cotton swab smell like dung, but that's to be expected because of bacteria). Sucking dry air and liquids does not seem to irritate the wound either. There is indeed pain, but very light and is easily dealt with by Ibuprofen.

Pull the tooth or get a crown?


My upper third molar (i think its that one) is in bad shape... its given me grief as long as i can remember. I have had root canal, several fillings but every year it gets worse and more fractured. I regularly experience pain around my gums with this tooth.


Last weekend the tooth broke again for about the 4th or 5th time... I went though a week of pain, and got a new temporary cap today, and finally a bit of relief from the pain. (note... the pain is in the gums, the rest of the tooth is very dead)


I discussed with my dentist, removing the tooth, but she is insistent on getting a crown.


I have had a 2nd molar on my bottom row removed with good results (opposite side) so I asked her the reasoning for keeping the tooth.. she mentioned that it was to close to my sinuses and that i was too young to have it removed (i am in my mid 40's) She said if i had it removed i would need an implant and/or dentures.


The cost of the crown is not a major issue, I just don't see the point in prolonging the inevitable, why put off for 5 to 10 years what i can get sorted now? (FYI: i actually have a crown on my central incisor that has now lasted me 22 years and still going strong)


I know asking for professional advice on specific cases is unreasonable, though i do have the following general questions.


1, Would there be an issue with removing an upper 3rd molar and not getting dentures? Why cant i just cope with one


2, Is my dentist just looking to make a buck out of me? should I be seeking a second opinion?


Other notes: I am quite tall and have VERY long roots.

I had filling behind one of my bottom teeth, it fell out in October and if I push on the back of it with my tongue, my gums bleed. Help?


Title pretty much says it all. The reason I haven't gotten any help yet is because I don't have any health insurance so there isn't much I can do. I was hoping somebody here would be able to help me out and give me an idea of what might be going on?

Front teeth gum question


My gum on my two front bottom teeth is not attached to my teeth any more. It started about two weeks ago and I think was because a seed got stuck in that area and I worked it out with my tongue and suction. About an hour later it felt like I got punched in my teeth and low and behold that part of my gum is just kind of flopping around. Since it happened on a Friday I couldn't call anybody till Monday and by then it no longer was in pain. I also noticed that on one my front bottom teeth the gum line is lower then the other. The closet emergency dental is hours away and I of course don't have insurance. What should I do?
