Help! I had 2 wisdom teeth extracted and a crown done and have some questions.

Today is day 5 after my operation. I had both wisdom teeth on my right side taken out as well as a crown. My lower extraction site I can see some yellowish material that I thought was bone but make actually be fibrin? I'm not sure, I don't really have pain it's more of an annoyance, like having a popcorn kernel that you're not aloud to pull out. I haven't had any bleeding since the day after the operation but I just wanted to get some advice, am I in the process of dry socket? Do I have an infection? I'd contact my dentist but they are closed today and I'm extremely paranoid. I've been rinsing my mouth after every meal with warm salt water. I softly brush/floss twice a day. I have pain medication but I'm trying not to take it because of the high amount of acetaminophen which makes my prostate swell and makes it difficult for me to urinate. Any feedback at all would be appreciated

Question about immediate denture, profuse bleeding. Please help.

I just got my top teeth extracted yesterday, and they placed an immediate denture over the sutures. I went in for a followup today, and they said everything is good so far and to remove the denture before I go to bed. The thing is, it's still bleeding. A lot. Is this normal? Should I just put some gauze in my mouth while I sleep? I'm kind of terrified here.

Second to last molar root looks like it's touching the bottom of my jawbone. What happens next? (Also dental implant question)

I've had a regular x-ray, and will go in for a different kind of x-ray on Tuesday, but my dentist wouldn't divulge possible treatment plans without the second xray. I'm just trying to get an idea of what I might be in for.

The tooth has been giving me trouble for almost a year. At my last regular cleaning, my dentist told me I need to work on stopping grinding my teeth, because I had sprained the ligament that holds my second from the last molar. Since then, I have done my best to comply. The pain comes and goes.

Six months ago, a month after my regular cleaning, I had a sinus infection that apparently reached into my teeth as well, which was an absolutely miserable experience. I'd rather have a migraine. No question. My regular doctor and dentist at the time claimed they could do nothing but give me one round of antibiotics and pain meds. My dentist told me I would just need to learn to deal with the pain. The doc said I was blowing it out of proportion, basically treated me like I was just seeking pain meds. I didn't want pain meds, they make me sick. I wanted to be well again but I digress...

My new dentist pointed out dark areas where the root meets the bottom of my jawbone. I'm guessing there's either still the same infection, or a reoccurring infection? The past few days are the first time it hurts to the touch from the outside though.

What am I in for?

Also sidenote, I see that dental insurance companies rarely cover dental implants. Why is this? My childhood dentist put a cap on a baby tooth that never fell out, then my next dentist took the tooth out and told me to go see his buddy and get a dental implant. I did not, because I was a college student and didn't have an extra $4000 to pay all at once. That dentist would neither accept dental insurance, nor payment plans. I was ignorant and had no idea I could just pick another dentist. Since he never actually told me why the dental implant might be necessary, I just never got it. (I did ask. He just didn't see the need to explain things. My mere presence bothered him.) The next dentist said I might want to think about it in the future if my teeth start moving,but left it at that. My new dentist, whom I have seen once, has already pushed me to look into it. It has probably been 7 years. Why is the implant necessary and why won't insurance cover it? And why do dentists keep pushing it on me and not actually explaining the need?

Root canal and dental insurance

I may need an emergency root canal as my I'm starting to lose the ability to chew on my right side of my jaw. My dentist is asking for 1500 for root canal and crown combo. I don't have that as I live in NYC and I'm basically nearly pay check to pay check. Problem is, my tooth still needs some work.

I've never had dental insurance before but it does look fairly affordable. I can definitely do 20-40/mo, I just can't do 1500 in one shot. What is a deductible? What are my other options?

I have an abscess and need help, advice, or just information.

I lost my job almost 2 years ago, and along went my insurance. I can't seem to find another job that actually pays more than minimum wage. I have 3 kids, and their mother supports us because I can't find work.

I had broken a few teeth a WHILE ago when I fell in the winter. I never got them taken care of, because I lost my job and couldn't afford it. I haven't even told my fiancée about my teeth because she can't afford to pay for it either. It's bad enough she's supporting me because I can't find work, or just don't end up with the job.

I woke up with a massive abscess on my bottom gun line directly near the teeth I had broken. It hurts like a son of a bitch, and I'm about to attempt to pop the abscess myself just to relieve some pressure and pain. She's currently sleeping, and I want to finish this before she wakes up so I don't have to risk her finding out, and spending money we don't have.

What are the steps I need to do, to ensure I drain this properly?

How long will it take before it comes back?

Will it get worse if I do the abscess myself?

I need the teeth pulled, and a lot of other dental work, but I've been trying to hold off as long as I can, because we just plain can't afford it. Now, I'm panicking because I know we can't afford an ER visit, and it's only going to get worse if o don't drain it myself somehow.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. I'll include a picture of the abscess in the comments. The whole bottom tooth is pretty much gone. Same goes for one of the top teeth too. They just chip away now because I've waited so long to get treatment. I can only imagine how much it's affected my other teeth.

Pros/cons? Tips? Tricks?

Dental rant

Not sure if this is the right forum .... But.

I have severe dental anxiety. Severe. I had to take a xanax this morning to make a phone call... I called EVERYONE. No one takes my insurance. I have broken teeth, really bad cavities etc. I have entirely too much wrong with my teeth. I'm 23, I feel so bad about this because my teeth make me literally hate myself more than I do. I've tried going to a normal dentist. I can't sit through an assortment m appointment without a panic attack. None of these offices would even let me talk over the phone with a dentist. I feel there is so many uncaring people in this field. I understand it's a money thing. I get it. I've just accepted the fact my teeth are done for. I'm too beyond help and it's okay.. I can't afford dental stuff anyways. /endrant Sorry to waste your time.

Aftereffect of novacaine?

I was at the dentist on Thursday (2 days ago) and had some work done replacing some fillings on the right upper part of my mouth. They used something (I presume novacaine) to numb the mouth - injected into my cheek. The right side of my mouth was numb and dropped for nearly 7 hours, and currently I'm still sore at the presumed injection site.

Is this normal? Or possibly a bad reaction? The dentist stated that it should be worn off in about an hour, but that was not the case at all. I go back next Tuesday for the other side of my mouth, and want to know if this is normal or if I should alert him (Obviously I'll mention it to him regardless).

[Story]Something that happened to me.

I love my parents. My father taught me right from wrong, and my mother taught me how to love. I was a relatively pudgy boy most of my life. Had some pretty serious pancake titties. I knew what I liked, it's the same thing I like now: Cartoons, Candy, and Super Nintendo. I was never active, and when I did spend time with friends, it was playing video games, or talking about video games; or watching TV, or talking about TV. I spent every dime I could get my grubby fingers on on candy and soda. Sickly habits to develop at any age. I was probably around 10 when I stood against my first cavity. I remember chewing gum and thinking, "Wow, that's the most painful thing I've ever fucking experienced." I tugged on my dad's pantleg, "Dad, the fuck?" That's as far as that memory goes. Not too long after that, I'm sitting in a dental chair. The dentist is sticking me in the gums with a syringe that was easily 10 inches long. (I'm ten). Pain, then heat. Maybe five minutes later, he pokes and prods at the hole in my tooth. "That hurts, dick," I inform the doctor that I can not only feel his sickle digging into the raw core of my unfortunate tooth, but all the discomfort that comes from a cavity. "Nonsense." What ensued thereafter was the single most painful and tramatic experience of my life. Every little poke shot searing pain throughout my skull, throughout my mind. I shreiked in fear and pain as he wouldn't stop. A nurse jumps on my flailing legs and my own mother holds me down. "We got to get it out of there," he spat. By God they did. After countless hours (a minute or two) of pain the likes of which I have yet to feel again, my tooth was gone. That dentist fucking destroyed me. It took me a longtime to realize it, but that's the man who showed me the world hurts. I mean, people get fucked up and that's horrible. There's a lot that people I know have gone through that I would never wish on anyone. I just wanted to share something that happened to me. It has no influence on who I am, or maybe it does, I couldn't tell you. If I could change one thing in my past, present, or future; it would have been that fucking dentist.

**This is truth, although I was ten so, obviously I didn't think the words fuck.

I need dentures. What is the best insurance/dental plan to cover them?

I believe I need to get both upper and lower dentures. SEVERAL of my back teeth have come apart, just rotted out resulting in chunks of them coming out here and there until all that is left of the teeth are sharp pieces which are barely above the gum line and some larger bits here and there. A few of these seem to be exposing nerve as just touching them with my tongue causes the sharpest pain which can last one to a few days. My front tooth has rotted inside to the point that some of it has fallen off and now it would look like the tooth had been broken in an accident but the black coloration inside on both sides of it gives away the rotting inside. It's the same for the front tooth beside it, minus the broken off part. One has only the 'filling' keeping the back part of it together. The most 'decent' ones left have only staining and holes forming on the backside that can be felt but not seen yet as they are forming in the back of the teeth. My teeth hurt constantly. The dull pain of bad teeth kind of hurt. So much so that I've become 'used to it'. It's awful and makes it difficult to focus at times but it's a welcome alternative to the sharp pain that leaves me eating sleep aids like candy to attempt to be able to sleep through the pain. That can happen at any moment. Drinking something, eating something, accidentally touching the tooth with my tongue. I'm only 42 and let me tell you, I do not WANT to have to get dentures. This is not something I would CHOOSE. But I'm tired of hurting all of the time and most of all, I'm tired of having to do a 'closed mouth smile' in every photo that someone takes of me. Especially the ones with my new grandson. <3 I look at those photos and see everyone else with their big, opened mouth smiles with their pretty teeth and they look so happy and then, there I am, holding my little grandbaby with the smallest closed mouth smile. Like, really, were you no happier than that to hold him? I know that no one probably thinks that way as I'm sure they all know WHY I don't 'smile big' but it feels that way to me when I see the photos. I just want to not be in pain and to be able to laugh and smile with no thought to how ugly my teeth look and what someone must be thinking when they catch a glimpse of them. It's not that they're my preferred solution. I'd much prefer dental implants or implant over dentures. It's that they are the cheapest solution I can come up with for my issues. And that being the case, I'd prefer to at least get the premium ones. Other than the fact that I want them to look as real and work as much like real teeth as possible, that is all I know. I don't know if this will involve the dentist sending me to a specialist, etc. And so I don't know the amount of additional fees that will be involved. I need dentures. What is the best insurance/dental plan to cover them?

I need to get both upper and lower dentures. I'd prefer to at least get the premium ones.

Other than the fact that I want them to look as real and work as much like real teeth as possible, that is all I know.

I don't know if this will involve the dentist sending me to a specialist, etc. And so I don't know the amount of additional fees that will be involved.

Could anyone tell me the cost to expect and the best way to spend the least amount out of pocket as possible?

What is the best dental insurance/dental plan to cover the high cost of these. Any other frugal ways to go about this? (I've read about the dental school suggestion).

I work but don't make a lot of money so any help in getting this done as quickly as possible for the least amount possible would be greatly appreciated as I am in quite a lot of constant pain.
