I have ground through three night guards at this point. The first one was a really expensive all hard plastic one made by my dentist. This one lasted about two months before it developed a hole by one of my molars and cracked. I am now done with my second dentek guard that has a thin layer of hard plastic and a layer of softer material. In both of these, my grinding has separated the soft and hard layers. I do have a couple of crowns and they seem to do a fair bit of damage to my teeth when I grind. I cannot afford to see the dentist right now, and would really like to find an over the counter solution that I do not have to spend 20 bucks every week.

I'm 22 years old. I haven't had a dental checkup since February 2013, so I'm a little worried. I'm looking at this Delta Dental site for Veterans and the Standard plan is $17.41 / Month. Is this very reasonable?
My sister had wisdom teeth grow in and she's telling me I'm definitely going to get them even if I don't feel anything. Haha. Any insight is appreciated!
History: 1. Lost front tooth #9 at age 9 2. Current age 29 Just returned from the periodontist for consultation, options below: 1. Do bone grafting and implant on #9 only but one front tooth will likely be slightly longer than the other due to receding gum. 2. Remove front tooth #8 and perform two implants. Both will match perfectly and since #8 is not as firm as it should be (due to bone loss), this might be a better option. One less tooth to worry about in long run etc...
I inquired about any technique that could fix my receding gum and his response to sum it up was gum grafting will not work because the tooth is fake (not his exact words).
After spending the last two hours researching, I came up with a few "possible" solutions of my own that I am wondering if might work.
Any other suggestions?
Just went to a new dentist a few days ago and confirmed I need a root canal. My schedule was unclear so I haven't made an appointment for it yet, but I will on Monday morning.
While I was in the office I was prescribed antibiotics and pain meds. Are those for me to take between now and the root canal? Or are those for after the root canal? It didn't even occur to me to ask, and they certainly didn't give me any instructions. The front desk lady implied both were for immediate use, but now I'm afraid to take the pain meds in case they're intended for after the surgery. And I immediately started taking the antibiotics, because I have never not done that. Hope I did not just screw everything up.
I'm certainly going to confirm on Monday, but you know it's Saturday night and I'm hurting now. I was only prescribed six pills for pain, so if I need to save those for after the root canal, I will. But it sure would be nice to go to sleep without a throbbing face.
Also, how miserable am I going to be during and after the root canal? I'm hoping to do it on a Friday so I have the weekend to recover, but that may not be an option and I have to figure out if I can work the day after or not. I'll look that up on the Internet now, but if anybody wants to share personal experience, please proceed.
I have a lot of dental work ahead of me to fix some weird things my last dentist did, so y'all may see me in here another time or two before it's all over.

So, my husband has really bad plaque/calcium build-up on his bottom teeth. I've been married to him for ten years and only found out about this two years ago. He always smiles with his lips closed and talks a certain way where I can't ever see his bottom teeth. I had no idea he had this issue. I discovered by mistake when I caught a glimpse of something bright yellow on his bottom teeth...thought it was food...and I brought it to his attention. He was embarrassed to show me, but I forced him to. He said when he was younger he never brushed his teeth. So this crap has been in his teeth for decades. It has eaten away at a huge chunk of his gums. I wish I can provide a photo, but I would have to get him drunk in order to do that.
Ever since, I've been begging him to go to the dentist. He refuses. Says they can't help him which is BS. I've even purchased the tools and products to do the cleaning myself...I attempted it but he got frustrated within the first two minutes made me stop.
Quite honestly, it grosses me out. It has affected our sex life. Every time we kiss, it is all I can think about. Every time I want to talk about it, he shuts me down and says "I don't feel like talking about it" or "now is not a good time". Well, apparently it is NEVER a good time.
Today we had a big argument about it. He says he feels like he is living with a roommate instead of a wife. I told him I feel the same but he knows why. And I reminded him again just in case he forgot. We got nowhere. I'm normally a very patient and reasonable person...but today I blew up because I feel like he is accusing me for the lack of sex life. Fuck, I've been suffering too.
I'm frustrated. I want my husband back. I want to feel attracted to him again. I want to be able to kiss him without thinking about the stupid teeth.
I hate that he is not taking care of the problem. It's not for vanity, it is fucking hygiene. Which I care a lot about. And he should too before he loses his teeth to gum disease or worse.
I needed to vent this. I have nobody to talk to about it because I don't want to reveal his secret or embarrass him.
Any advice? Anyone else going through this? How can I convince or reason with him?
And please, no dumbass immature comments about giving him oral sex instead or some crap like that. There is more to sex than "the deed".
Hi everyone. Due to situations beyond my control, my parents did not have the means or resources to take me to a dentist when I was younger and I am now suffering the consequences of not getting adequate dental care. My teeth are brittle, thin, crooked, starting to shift and ultimately in terrible condition.
I am a recovered Anorexic which makes matters worse. From what I understand, the acid from my body has essentially eroded my teeth to the point where they are prone to breaking and cracking if I eat hard foods. It was very difficult for me growing up,and I have now turned my life around to the fullest - I have cut out all sugary drinks and snacks, thrive on a healthy diet, and am very physically active.
Even though I have made beneficial changes, I am in constant pain and spend the majority of my nights crying myself to sleep because I feel there is no hope. I work full-time (looking for a second and third job) and though I have asked my supervisor, do not get insurance. I have inquired at dental schools, sent heartfelt messages to restorative dentists around my area, even sent e-mails to some of the richest people in the States, but simply have not found any type of assistance. Due to financial and health matters my family is currently facing, they are not able to help me.
Hence why I decided to come to Reddit and see if there are any dentists who will be able to please point me in the right direction. I am very scared at the prospect of losing my smile entirely and being in pain. The worst part is having to mask my true emotions and hold my hand around my mouth when laughing and smiling.
I feel that getting my smile restored would allow me to reach my fullest potential in life and would allow me to be more active and helpful in the community.
Reddit users and dentists, I beg you, if you could find it in your heart to please help, I would be unbelievably grateful and would appreciate your time and assistance more than you know. Thank you very kindly, and have a wonderful day!
